Whitby is a
beautiful little harbour town in North Yorkshire. Steaped in history,
with its Abbey Ruins and the Church of St Marys, The home of Captain
Cooke (now a musium in him memory), and not forgetting its
connections with the stories of Dracula and the vampire cult. |

|
The ruins of
Whitby Abbey on the clifftops and the Church of St Mary`s to the
right. Below is the area reputedly the point where Dracula first set
foot in Britain aptly named First Bite. |
|
Step back in to some of the old town history with a walk down the
cobbled Sandgate, most of the shops still with their origanal frontages,
Leading to
First Bite, The Whitby Jet Works and the 199 steps upto the Abbey and
St Mary`s. |

The Harbour
Bridge joins the East and West sides of Whitby across the River Esk.
This narrow
iron swing bridge is only wide enough for traffic in one direction so
has trafic lights at each side |
|
Whitby is also
the regular mooring for one of Britains famous Tall Ships, The Grand Turk.
For a small
charge you can board The Grand Turk and look around her at you
leisure above and below decks. |

The Quayside
Restarant comes highly recommended, having the seafish award for 3
consecutive years, fish fryer of the year award 2006 and La Routier
award 2006,
We have eaten
here and it is not hard to see how they got their awards, Quite
simply the best fish I have ever had

Why not take a
trip on the Bark Endevour, there are daily trips from the harbour.
Or if you are
feeling in a romantic mood, why not take your loved one for the
sunset cruise, and watch the sunset out on the North Sea. |
